Hello, thanks for subscribing to my newsletter. I always felt that I am lucky to have the capability to learn and grow. And I hope my growth journey will inspire you in someway.
What I’m learning
Although Figma Config 2022 ended in May. But I am still watching the video recordings on Youtube. There are total 60+ talks, and I have watched 40+ videos. There are so many gold nuggets inside, which I strongly recommend anyone who is learning UI UX should have a watch. I will probably share a summary of my top 5 favourite talks after I finished all of them. (Stay tune by signing to my newsletter!)
Here is one of the talk I found it very interesting last week. A designer working in Shopify, Yuan Qing Lim shared about what are the differences of UX in China as compared to European and American countries. You can tell the UI in a China app like “Taobao” “Meituan” “Alipay” are very different from the app of other country like “Instacart” “Netflix” “Apple Store”.
The reason can be summarised to the following three themes.
More is more
Super apps

You can give it a watch if you are interested to find out more.
What I’m reading
Last Friday I have completed my reading of “Start With Why” after two months. A book recommended by my friend, who shared with me that this book can help me articulate my thoughts better.
I am a person who is always start with HOW. Hence I usually communicate in point form rather than sharing a story. End up I felt that the person who is listening to me will always get bored easily.
Here are my three favourite quotes from the book.
You have to talk about your WHY and prove it with WHAT you do. Again, a WHY is just a belief, HOWs are the actions we take to realize that belief, and WHATs are the results of those actions. When all three are in balance, trust is built and value is perceived.
All leaders must have two things: they must have a vision of the world that does not exist and they must have the ability to communicate it
In my vernacular, achievement comes when you pursue and attain WHAT you want. Success comes when you are clear in pursuit of WHY you want it.
After reading this book, I tried to find out my company WHY by asking one of my senior leader. The answer surprised me. You can try it out too if you are curious (and of course your leader are willing to share with you).
I am also trying to figure out my own WHY… I know I want to do what I am passionate about while it can support me a living. But this is just a WHY to my career. There should be a bigger WHY behind this to motivate me along.
Have you thought about what is your WHY?
Quote For The Week
I love to save quote that can motivate me. Here is one quote that reminds I should stay out of my comfort zone.
“But many rewards in life will elude you if you're not willing to be a little uncomfortable at first.” — James Clear, the author of Atomic Habits
